Year 2 had an adventurous day at Hampstead Heath Education Centre. They took part in two activities to reinforce the learning they’ve had in their Science lessons. The first activity was ‘mini-beasts exploring’. They went around the secret garden to find mini-beasts that live in micro-habitats. They used a magnifying glass to observe the mini-beasts. If the children found a mini-beast they were unfamiliar with, they had an information sheet to help them find out its name. The second activity was pond dipping. The children used a net to collect mini-beasts that live in ponds. They were fascinated to find newts, pond lice, worms and water mites. At the end, they had an opportunity to make a mini-beast sculpture using clay which they were able to take home. They designed some very creative sculptures!
