Year 2 learnt about ocean pollution in their Science lesson. They created an ocean using gravel, water and sea life toys. They added different colours of sprinkles to the ocean and sprayed water on to it. They collected a sample of the water for each colour of sprinkles they added. The ‘sprinkles’ represented the fertilisers used by farmers and the ‘sprayed water’ represented the rain. This helped them understand that rain washes the fertilisers off the ground and as a result it falls into the ocean, which causes pollution.
